Supplementing your body with electrolytes such as potassium, calcium, chloride and magnesium in addition to sodium is essential to prevent muscle cramps, headaches, nausea, dizziness and fatigue during exercise. It can be difficult to judge the amount of electrolytes an individual requires and much of it depends on the frequency and intensity of your workouts. Taking an electrolyte product’s recommended dose is a good place to start. “Your personal experience is what is most important,” Kelinson said. “No formula will ever match personal experience or trail and error.”
