The inaugural running of The Beer Relay took place on May 30 in Lyons, Colo. The six-hour team trail running relay (held in conjunction with the Burning Can beer festival) gave runners the option of drinking a 12-ounce Oskar Blues microbrew before running a 5K singletrack trail loop and then tagging a teammate to follow suit on the next lap. Each beer consumed resulted in a 2-minute time deduction from a team’s total time. A total of 84 teams participated in the event and Team Grass Animals was the overall winner after racking up 17 laps and drinking 14 beers in 5 hours 44 minutes. Click through the photos below to get a glimpse of the beer-drinking, trail-running madness. (The next edition of The Beer Relay will be held July 18 in Brevard, N.C.)
