A chilly, rainy day in Boston produced memorable racing. The elite women’s race proved to be one of the most thrilling in the marathon’s storied history, with Caroline Rotich of Kenyan surging in the last 50 meters to beat Mare Dibaba by 4 seconds. Rotich’s winning time was 2:24:55.
On the men’s side, Ethiopian Lelisa Desisa won by pulling away late, crossing the finish line in 2:09:17 for a 31-second victory over Yemane Tsegay.
