Fuel Buzz: Oatmeal Fruit Squeezes
Food pouches are growing in popularity as a portable fuel option.
Not into bars, chews or tablets before an early morning run? Or don’t have time to even make a small and quick breakfast? These oatmeal fruit squeezes made by Munk Pack are the solution to fast fueling in the wee morning hours when there’s not enough time to spare.
Food pouches are becoming increasingly popular among endurance athletes as an easy, on-the-go source for energy. Munk Pack’s oatmeal fruit squeezes, made of whole grain rolled oats, flax and real fruits, is not only easier to consume and digest than a bar before or during a long run, but also contain up to 550 milligrams of Omega-3s and 4 grams of fiber due to the rolled oats and flax, which helps to sustain that energy. It’s hard to believe each 4.2-ounce pouch contains only 100 calories with how much dense nutrition it packs.
Out of the three available flavors—Apple Quinoa Cinnamon, Blueberry Acai Flax and Raspberry Coconut—our staff liked Apple Quinoa Cinnamon best. It reminded us of apple cinnamon pie, but not as sweet and much healthier! The quinoa also adds an extra benefit of protein. We’ll admit, the idea of ingesting food from a pouch sounds unpleasant, and we were skeptical at first. However, with oatmeal’s naturally gooey texture and with real chunks of fruit (opposed to artificial flavoring), the difference is unnoticeable between eating from a pouch versus a bowl of cold oatmeal.
Munk Pack Oatmeal Fruit Squeezes are sold in packs of six for $15 on their website.
