Eat Emotionally and Stay Skinny

Four tips for giving in and staying trim.

Emotional eating doesn’t have to pack on extra pounds, Michelle May, MD, recently told Health Magazine. The author of Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat had four tips for giving in and staying trim. Here’s the gist:

1. Only eat what you love.
Don’t reach for a 100-calorie snack pack of fiber-laden chips when what you really want is a brownie. That’s 100 super-wasted calories—you didn’t even need to eat in the first place, remember?

2. Make it worth it.
Focus on the food while you’re eating it. No distractions.

3. Eat your meal first.
Don’t save calories for dessert by skipping your main meal—you’ll be skipping out on nutrients and set yourself up for a rollercoaster of blood sugar spikes and crashes.

4. Stop feeling guilty.
If you feel guilty, you might just reach for another brownie to fix the uncomfortable feeling.
