Shoe Of The Week: Brooks Glycerin 12

If you're looking for a soft and comfortable shoe, this one should be on your shopping list.

If you’re looking for a soft and comfortable shoe, this one should be on your shopping list.

In a word, this shoe is plush. With all of the interior creature comforts (including an exotically comfortable padded tongue and collar) and a super-cushy, two-layer, maximally cushioned midsole (which includes a new, pressure-adapting foam called Super DNA), this incarnation of the Glycerin is the most cozy and sublime yet. (The cushy tongue, padded collar and soft footbed offer up amazing step-in feel that translates well to running.) The Glycerin is a medium volume shoe from heel to toe box, but it can accommodate a lot of foot shapes from narrow to moderately wide. Although its biggest asset is cushy foam, there is a twinge of stability apparent in the build-up of the dual-layer foam midsole, the full-ground contact outsole (including a large butterfly-shaped patch of rubber under the arch) and the supportive arch saddle in the upper. Although it’s not as quick, light or agile as some of the everyday trainers out there, it’s not clunky, either. If soft and comfortable are your biggest criteria for buying running shoes, the Glycerin should be on your shopping list.
