Gear Of The Week: Adidas AKTIV Collection

Adidas is honoring New York City Marathon legend Grete Waitz with a new shoe and apparel line.

Adidas is celebrating the late Grete Waitz, a nine-time New York City Marathon champion, and the fifth anniversary of its partnership with her AKTIV Against Cancer foundation with a special release of shoes and apparel before this weekend’s New York City Marathon. Sporting a new logo, the adidas AKTIV collection features performance gear–hoodies, tees, tanks, shorts and shoes. Included in that mix is the Grete Boost 30 ($100), a lightweight marathon racing flat with Boost midsole foam under the forefoot, and the Adizero Tempo Boost 7 ($120), latest Adidas performance-oriented shoe to be reconfigured with Boost midsole foam. The Grete Boost 30 coincides with the 30-year anniversary of the launch of Waitz’s Adidas Originals running shoe and also honors the 30^th anniversary of her silver medal at the 1984 Olympics. (The Adizero Tempo Boost 7 will come out in a wider variety of colors in February.) Adidas will be donating 100 percent of its in-booth AKTIV apparel collection sales at the New York City Marathon expo to the foundation.
