Gear Of The Week: Wahoo Fitness TICKR Run

This heart rate strap works with iOS and Android smartphones to provide a wealth of information about your run.

This heart rate strap works with iOS and Android smartphones to provide a wealth of information about your run.

If you run with your phone, put it to work for something other than selfies! The new TICKR Run heart rate monitor chest strap uses an accelerometer and a free app to turn iOS and Android smartphones and devices into personal running coaches. It took about five minutes to pop on the strap, download the app and get out the door. Once you hit play, the TICKR Run tracks (in real time): pace, distance, active time, average and maximum heart rate, calories burned, average cadence, maximum cadence, ground contact, oscillation and the smoothness of your stride from left to right, up and down and forward and backward. Do you prefer pictures? No problem. Each run gets a map overview, as well as a profile chart with data imposed over it. Not that I’m going to share my cadence or pace with anyone, but data is sharable through over 50 tracking apps.
