Editor’s Picks: May 14-18
We're testing new running gear, the latest shoes & discussing our favorite nutrition products monthly. Here's what we're currently digging.
Things are finally heating up around the country and thankfully, that means plenty more reasons to get outdoors. Although we haven’t fully put away our winter apparel, we’re ready to start busting out our favorite tank tops and shorts for long runs. This month, our Editors have been testing out sweat-wicking clothing, breathable shoes and gear to keep us feeling cool for miles. Here are five things that we’re currently digging right now:

Brooks Sherpa 5″ Short – $48
The first product we enjoyed this month was the Brooks Sherpa 5″ shorts. They gave us that springtime feeling with a 5-inch seam that makes for a great in-between length for runners who want less fabric, but aren’t quite comfortable in split shorts just yet. Because of their angled envelope side pockets, we felt better about our keys, fuel and Chapstick staying in place during runs. Although the brand suggests its back pocket is great for phones, we found that it was a little too small to fit bigger ones so you would need to leave it at home or purchase a phone carrying case. Boasting sweat-wicking mesh brief liners, we thankfully had no problems with chafing.

Janji W’s Uganda Vista Tank – $54
Made with micro-perforated striped fabric, this Janji blue-green muscle tank is breathable and perfect for daytime runs. Thanks to its loose fit and anti-chafing side seams, it’s easy to set out on longer distances without worrying about overheating. Plus, it’s mesh back and paneled cut-outs are also great for inviting cool breezes to flow through and keep you feeling cool. And, because it’s Janji, by purchasing this tank you’re helping fund clean water projects in various countries. So that’s pretty great in itself.

Nike Odyssey React – $120
We have been enjoying warm springtime runs in the new Nike Odyssey React in Arctic Pink. Using the delightfully-bouncy React sole with a slightly larger outsole than the Epic React model, this shoe gives excellent energy return and comfort on both short and long runs. The upper is made from a breathable jacquard fabric, perfect for longer runs as the temperatures outside start to climb. The inside of the shoe is soft and stretchy, perfect for running sans-socks when you feel like it. And the soft pink colorway is a perfect match for all of the spring blossoms on the trails! Lululemon Time to Sweat Crop – $88
For cooler evenings, we’ve been throwing on these Time to Sweat Lululemon crop tights, but they’ve also proved to work just as well during the day. Made with a high-waisted cut, the brand’s Luxtreme fabric is sweat-wicking enough to be good for running, cross training and high-intensity activities. They also move easily while still having a firmness to them that keeps everything tucked in during a run. For storage, they feature zipper-less pocket in the waistband and extra leg pockets. If you’re an evening running, flip up the cuffs to expose its reflective details so you won’t be hidden among your surroundings.

Brooks Levitate 2 – $150
This June, Brooks will debut the second iteration of their Levitate performance shoe. Last Fall, the brand’s inaugural trainer debuted with its springy foam cushioning, breathable upper knit and a weight of 11.2 oz (M) and 9.7 oz (W). After lacing up the newest version of the shoes this month, we knew it was going to make our Editor’s Pick’s lists. Offering the same responsive cushioning as before, the Levitate 2 is made with a new Fit Knit upper that hugs the foot with a more natural, sock-like feeling. On warm days, the trainers worked well to keep our feet from heating up too quickly and promoted a quicker pace thanks to its DNA AMP midsole. It’s a great shoe that you’ll want to get your hands on come summer. Be on the lookout for a more in-depth review of these shoes in the coming weeks.
