He’s on the hunt for a new UK all-comers’ record.

Double world-record holder Leonard Komon is the recent addition to the Bupa Great South Run later this month–a 10-mile race.

Komon, 23, is practically the king of the roads with records in the 5K and 10K. He joins fellow Kenyan Abel Kirui, a two-time winner of the world marathon championships, in the race.

Besides winning the race, Komon’s goal is to take down Joseph Ebuya’s UK all-comers record (45:16).

The event’s director, Peter Reilly, has high hopes for Komon. “In spite of his youth, Komon has been a leading distance runner for a few years now,” he said. “Last year he became the first man to run under 27 minutes for 10 kilometres, which is phenomenal.”

Komon is the fastest 10K runner in the world this year. He ran 27:15 at the ASICS Grand 10K in Berlin last month.

“I’m sure with the quality of the opposition he faces in Portsmouth, there is every chance we will see a new UK All-Comers’ record produced,” Reilly predicted.
