According the race’s sponsor, the soccer players will play an “integral” part in the marathon.

They run on the soccer field, but according to an article in the Huffington Post, American World Cup soccer players Amy Wambach, Hope Solo, and Alex Morgan will be doing a different kind of running in October. The three will be part of a charity relay team at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

They won’t be taking on the full 26.2-mile course, but will still be participating in the event with 45,000 other runners.

Apparently, the players have been contracted by the organizers of the marathon for a charitable program. According to the race’s sponsor, Bank of America, they will play “an integral role” in the marathon.

“The opportunity to partner with Bank of America and the Chicago Marathon is a thrill for us,” Solo said. “There’s going to be such a tremendous spirit of camaraderie – from the public and private organizations working together to stage the event to all the athletes and their supporters pursuing a personal best or advancing a community cause. It’s going to be a great weekend.”
