Wittenburg Staying Put At New York Road Runners

Organization’s president not interested in being CEO of USA Track & Field.

Saying that she was surprised to hear of Doug Logan’s recent dismissal as CEO of USA Track & Field, New York Road Runners president Mary Wittenburg made it known on Wednesday that she’s not interested in taking over the organization’s vacant position.

“If I didn’t have what I think is the greatest job in running, or at least one of them, I would be extremely interested,” Wittenburg told Joe Battaglia of Universal Sports.

Wittenburg, a lawyer by trade, has been working for the New York Road Runners since 1998 and has helped transform the New York City Marathon into one of the premier road races in the world. Her own competitive running background and proven ability to grow the popularity of running and road racing has prompted many of the sport’s insiders to suggest she’s the best choice to take over the reigns at USA Track & Field. Wittenburg, however, is content to continue growing the sport from her current post in New York City.

“What I have at New York Road Runners is a platform that is not only based in New York City but is national and global, with the same opportunity to work with other people in the sport and pull together,” Wittenburg told Battaglia. “”I am really interested in taking New York Road Runners and the whole sport to another level, so that’s where my commitment is.”
