New Zealand’s Nick Willis has been on a tear lately. He just won his eighth race of the season and it came with a bang. The Olympic silver medalist in the 1500m clocked a 3:56.2 to win the Medtronic TC Mile last Thursday in Minneapolis.

Willis’ impressive time bettered the race record (set by David Torrence) by 2 seconds.

“I took the lead with about 450m to go,” Willis said. “I wanted to save something for the end if I needed it.”

The women’s race went to an American, Sarah Brown of Knoxville, Tennessee, who defeated Canada’s Nicole Sifuentes right at the tape.

Brown’s winning time was 4:33.4.

“I thought, if the wind’s at my back, I want to just go for it,” Brown recalled. “My goal was to lead it … [but] I had to maneuver a little bit more than I planned. A road mile is a lot different than a track race. It’s anybody’s game.”

Heather Kampf , the race’s defending champion, took third.
