On a Whim, NBA Coach Runs Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans

It's not the first time Jamahl Mosley has done a running/basketball doubleheader.

It just so happened that the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks were in New Orleans on Sunday for a game against the New Orleans Pelicans. And, it just so happened that Mavericks assistant coach Jamahl Mosley caught wind of the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon and 1/2 taking place about 10 hours before tip-off.

On a whim, Mosley signed up for the half marathon, less than 24 hours before the race started.

Sporting a Dallas Mavericks t-shirt with sleeves underneath, Mosley ran the half marathon in 2:00:00 on the dot Sunday morning. He then headed over to the Smoothie King Center about five miles from the Rock ‘n’ Roll finish line for the Mavericks-Pelicans game.

Mosley is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Mavericks, after four seasons on the Cleveland Cavaliers’ bench. He’s also served as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets.

While an impressive use of one’s day, it’s not the first time Mosley has pulled off a running/basketball doubleheader. In 2012, he ran the Philadelphia Half Marathon while his Cavaliers were in town to play the 76ers.

Mosley’s day in the Big Easy wasn’t flawless, however—the Pelicans beat the Mavericks, 109-106, Sunday night.
