Welsh brothers Scott and Rhys Thomas recently completed a charity run across the United States–the equivalent of 74 back-to-back marathons–with just four days rest. The two brothers raised over $23,000 for the “Help for Heroes” and the “British Heart” foundations as well as $3000 for the “Young Texans Against Cancer” and the “Salute America’s Heroes” foundations.
Just minutes after finishing this incredible feat, 29-year-old Scott Thomas had this to say: “I’m exhausted, absolutely exhausted – it has been a long, long journey. I thought about getting to the finish line but never realised quite what it would be like.”
The brothers were motivated to complete this journey after witnessing bravery from their friends on the battlefields of Afghanistan.
“I keep thinking I’m going to wake up and it will all have been a dream,” recalls Scott.
At first, the pair completed 40 miles a day, seven days a week.
Both runners shed over 20 pounds each and expect to celebrate their achievement with large Texas steaks before returning home to Wales.
