Wanjiru’s Wife Drops Attempted Murder Charges

The Olympic medalist had been facing some serious accusations.

The Olympic medalist had been facing some serious accusations.

More intrigue in the Sammy Wanjiru domestic abuse scandal: Reuters is reporting that Wanjiru’s wife, Triza Njeri, withdrew her charges of attempted murder on Tuesday. Njeri appeared before a Kenyan court and said that the couple had formally resolved their differences. She also told the overseeing magistrate Alice Mong’are that she did not wish to proceed any further in the matter.

“I have come here to tell the court that we have resolved our differences. Our matters will be settled out of the courtrooms,” she said. Apparently, Wanjiru and his wife arrived in court hand-in-hand.

Wanjiru can also take solace in the fact that security guard William Masinde agreed to drop his charge of assault.

On December 30 of last year, both Masinde and Njeri claimed that Wanjiru, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the marathon, had threatened them with an assault rifle.  Wanjiru was then alleged to have struck Masinde with the butt of the rifle.
