Wanjiru And Wife Reconcile After Death Threat

Just one day after brandishing a gun, the marathon champion is making amends.

Just one day after brandishing a gun, the marathon champion is making amends.

The Daily Nation is reporting that Kenyan Olympic marathon gold medalist Sammy Wanjiru and his wife, Tereza Njeri, have made amends one day following a domestic dispute. In the incident, Wanjiru is alleged to have made death threats to his wife and physically assaulted a security guard with the butt of an AK-47 assault rifle. Wanjiru was arrested an released on bail.

Both Wanjiru and his wife have said that family members intervened to bring the two to reconcile.

“My wife is at home and you can speak to her to confirm that we have reconciled,” Wanjiru said on phone.

In other developments surrounding the case, police have impounded a safe belonging to Wanjiru at his residence.

“We want him to open the safe to enable us continue with our investigations now that he is out on bond so that we can verify its contents. He [Wanjiru] said the keys were not available and that is why we took it away and will only return it after we have inspected its contents,” said police commander Jasper Ombati.

Wanjiru is set to reappear in a Kenyan court in March. He has won both the London and Chicago Marathons as well as the recent World Marathon Majors series.
