One German man is setting out to raise money for a disabled boy.
Wendelin Lauxen from Aschenburg, Germany is seeking to be the first person to run across all seven emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates. The journey is approximately 500 kilometers and will take Lauxen two weeks to complete. He plans to run up to six hours a day.
Lauxen, 49 years old, is doing this feat for charity. He hopes to raise money for Diya Al Aster, a 17-year-old Palestinian boy who was born with a musculoskeletal deformity. The German runner is a former nurse who started his own health care company. He has run seven marathons on all seven continents.
“Seven is my lucky number, I was born on July 7, I ran marathons in all seven continents and now I want to run all seven emirates,” he said.
According to an article on Gulf News.com, Lauxen contacted the Guinness Book of World Records about his journey, but was told it could not be logged as a record given the fact that it is “a domestic achievement within the UAE which could not be clarified.”
