An Ultra Runner Who Brings Her Dogs Along With Her
Her Huskies accompany her on every mile.

Her huskies are always by her side.
Most people take their dogs along with them just for their short runs, but not English ultra marathoner Sandra Bowers. When she heads out with her three huskies, she is going for hours. Bowers, a member of Great Britain’s 100K team, recently showed up with her training partners at a British elementary school to give a talk about ultra running. Not surprisingly, the children wanted to know how fast the dogs can run.
Assistant head teacher, Philip Avery, noted the positive impact of the visit. “The dogs are her training and racing partners, and seemed to understand the purpose of the visit as, for over an hour, they helped children to run faster and more enjoyably than they ever had before,” he said. In her presentation to the children, Bowers talked about the challenges she faced overcoming an ankle injury .
Bowers is currently preparing to race in the world 50-mile trail championships, which take place this July in Ireland. She will then race in the Commonwealth championships in September.
