U.S. Bids For World Indoor Champs

They could be held in Portland, Ore.

In three years, the best track & field athletes in the world may be heading to the United States to compete indoors. That’s the wish of the USATF, according to a post on its website Monday.

The governing body of track and field in the United States has made a bid for the 2016 IAAF World Championships. And were they to win it, the event would be held in Portland, Ore.

“As a member of the IAAF family, USATF considers it an honor as well as a duty to try to bring a world championship event back to U.S. soil,” said USATF CEO Max Siegel. “Having hosted two very successful Olympic Trials in 2008 and 2012, TrackTown USA has shown itself to be the premier host of world-class track events in this country. We look forward to presenting the bid and continuing to elevate the off-track profile of the United States in the international sports world.”

The 2012 World Indoor Championships were held in Turkey.
