Typhoid Won’t Deter Emmanuel Mutai

He returns to London this weekend.

It’s a foregone conclusion that any top-tier elite marathoner has to be tough, but how tough?

One example of the fortitude required to compete one the world stage is Kenya’s Emmanuel Mutai. According to a report on Supersport.com, the 27-year-old reigning London Marathon champion is going to return this weekend to defend his crown despite a recent bout of typhoid.

“I had a fever a few weeks ago and was under medication,” Mutai admitted. “But I am feeling better now and my recovery has been good. I will have to try my best.”

The competition in London will be especially fierce this year with the likes of Abel Kirui and Patrick Makau in the mix as well as Mutai.

“For me this will definitely be a tougher competition than last year because the field is so strong,” Mutai said yesterday.

“Everyone has run a good time so I will have to perform at my best.” Mutai won last year’s race in 2:04:40–a new course record.
