Twin Cities To Host Fast Fields This Weekend

Three national championships up for grabs on Sunday.

Three national championships up for grabs on Sunday.

The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon will play host to three national championships on Sunday: the USA Men’s Marathon, Masters Marathon and Women’s 10-Mile Championships.

Mo Trafeh, who won the U.S. 15K title earlier this year, will be making his marathon debut and is to be considered amongst the pre-race favorites. He will be challenged by 2008 USA Marathon champion Fernando Cabada, the current American record holder at 25 km, and local favorite Josh Moen who was runner-up at last year’s 10-mile championships.

Mbarak Hussein will lead the men’s Masters field, but he will be trailed closely by Paul Aufdemberge, Dave Olds, Sean Wade, Keith Mulhollon and Matthew Sandercock. Hussein won the overall and Masters title at this event in 2005 and 2006.

The women’s Masters race will be a close one, as 2007 champion Susan Loken will duke it out with 2008 runner-up Meghan Arbogast.

In the women’s 10-mile race, hometown favorite Katie McGregor will lead a solid field that includes Olympian Jen Rhines, as well as Sally Mayerhoff and Renee Metivier Baillie.
