The men’s and women’s defending champions will be there.
Running USA’s Nancy Hobbs is reporting that next Sunday some of the best mountain aces will compete to the top of Cranmore Mountain as part of the USA Mountain Running Championships. For the first time, the North American Central America Caribbean (NACAC) Mountain Running Championships and the U.S. Mountain Team selection will all happen simultaneously.
The route is a mixture of single-track trail, wide pathways, meadows, rocky terrain, and some steep ascents and descents.
The men will run a 4K loop three times, while the women will complete two laps.
“We are continuing to see a higher and higher level of competition at our USA Mountain Running Championships every year,” said Race Director Paul Kirsch. “The tremendous success the team has had at the World Mountain Running Championships over the past decade is causing a real growth in the depth of the field at our qualifying events and championship.”
The pre-race favorites are Max King and Kasie Enman, who won the 2011 edition of the championships.
