Citizens from Tokyo have been celebrating quite a bit this weekend in the wake of the International Olympic Committee’s announcement that the Japanese city will host the 2020 Summer Olympics.

More than 2,000 supporters of the bid showed up to Komazawa Stadium, which was built for the last Summer Olympics held in Tokyo back in 1964, to listen to the announcement live.

Not surprisingly, the place went crazy when Tokyo’s name was announced. Gold ticker tape fell from the ceiling and television announcers struggled to speak loudly enough to be heard through the cheering and yelling.

Tokyo’s rival to host the Games had been Istanbul, Turkey.

“This is a credit to the efforts of the entire nation,” said three-time women’s wresting gold medalist, Saori Yoshida. “The chance to see the highest level of sport live is a great chance for everyone, and as an Olympic athlete I’m thrilled.”
