The final preparations are underway for the world’s largest nighttime running event. On Sunday, over 44,000 runners will take to the streets of Las Vegas for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon. This is nearly 20,000 more runners than last year’s event.

FIfty-four countries across the globe and every state in the nation will be represented in the event.

Race officials say that if it were physically possible to field a larger group of runners, the demand was there to accept even more entries.

“Everyone was super-excited about it and it blew our expectations out of the water, so we finally had to close registration at 44,000,” recalls event manager Megan Bitsoff. The large attraction to this year’s edition of the event is that it is being held on the Strip at night.

“As I get older, I want to stay active and how do you miss an opportunity to run in a Rock n’ Roll race at night with all the lights and closing the Strip?” asks one of the participants, Brian Schreiber. “I think it’s a pretty unique opportunity and I’m excited that I have a chance to do it.”
