The young teen was just going out for a morning run.
Police are looking for the suspect who shot and killed 13-year-old Jonathan Garcia in Phoenix last Sunday. According to reports from the boy’s family, Garcia, the son of a Honduran immigrant, had risen early and left the family’s house to go for a jog.
Speaking in front of a memorial of teddy bears, personal notes and a football, members of Garcia’s family said they want justice.
“It’s horrible. It’s wrong,” said Isaac Espinoza, Jonathan’s stepfather. “Our family has been torn apart. … All we want is just help. We want closure.”
According to police, no witnesses or suspects have been found.
Garcia was a dedicated 8th grade student and starting football player at Larry C. Kennedy Middle School. His stepfather, Isaac Espinoza, said the teen dreamed of being a doctor and was often playfully teased about being a “teacher’s pet.”
