It’s a bit unclear what whiskey and running have to do with one another, but nevertheless, Paul Tergat as entered the Johnnie Walker hall of fame.

The company now calls Tergat a “giant” of the company.

“In implementing the global Johnnie Walker ‘Walk With Giants’ campaign for Kenya, there was no doubt that running legend, Paul ‘The Gentleman’ Tergat, was the perfect choice. His inspiring tale of perseverance against all odds truly demonstrates the tenets of ‘inspiring personal progress’ in an emotional and compelling way that will inspire Kenyans everywhere to keep walking,” said company spokeswoman Agnes Kinga.

Tergat, who is Kenyan, held the marathon world record from 2003 to 2007. He said that it was humbling that the story of his life could be used to inspire people across the world.

Before taking to the marathon, Tergat won five IAAF Cross-Country titles from 1995 to 1999. He is nicknamed “The Gentleman”, because of his hard-working, self-motivating attitude.
