Cadet: Christine Sinclair
Age: 27 |
City: Jamaica Plain, Mass.
Christine started running only a few months ago. “I woke up one day and decided to take a jog and it turned into a 3 mile run,” she says. “Since then, I started increasing by 1 mile each week.”
Seeing all the runners around her inspired her to plan for a half marathon in the fall. But after this year’s Boston Marathon, she decided to take on the full distance this year. “I simply want to finish and finish strong,” she says.
Vet: Laura Dempsey

City: Watertown, Mass.
Laura Dempsey started running about 11 years ago—and living in Boston was a big reason why she got started. “There’s a great running community here, and I was motivated by friends who stayed fit by running the paths of the Charles River each day,” she says. Her first marathon was Boston in 2003, back when it was easier to get into the race. This year she’s hoping to run 3:45, but more importantly, feel strong and healthy throughout the race.
“I was not a runner in school or growing up so I never imagined that running marathons would become such a focus in my life,” she says. “It’s a gift to be healthy and strong enough to be a distance runner so I try to take advantage of the blessings as much as possible.”
