Sub-2:09 Marathons Turn 40
Derek Clayton became the first to break the barrier at a race in Belgium.
Clayton’s time (2:08:33) would have been only the 47th fastest performance in 2008, but it would have won the New York, Shanghai, and Seoul marathons. Should we seriously be talking about someone breaking two hours soon? In the last 30 years the record has only been bettered by four minutes and thirty-three seconds, and we still need four minutes more before we dip below two hours. Don’t hold your breath…
