Running can sometimes be considered a serious sport. But on April 1, there are many races around the world that lighten it up.

Yahoo sports reported on a few of these races, starting off with an event called “Canine Costumes” that takes place at Lakeview Pavilion at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas.

Literally “for the dogs”, the 1/2 kilometer event supports the Helping Hands Basset Rescue. A human half marathon takes place afterwards.

Moving north to Atlantic City, New Jersey is the Atlantic City April Fools Half Marathon. The volunteers at this race wear tutus and there are clowns on hand during registration.

This race’s goal is to raise $10,000 for Hope for Atlantic City, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Atlantic City Rescue.

The third race profiled is “across the pond” in London, England. It’s called the “Heroes Run London”. At this event, there are three costumed races: a 500m Mini Heroes Dash, a Super 5k, and a Heroic 10k.
