Stephanie Rothstein Bruce Wins SLO Half Marathon—20 Weeks Pregnant

The 2:29 marathoner continues to train hard with her second child on the way.

Stephanie Rothstein Bruce has a 10-month-old son and is 20 weeks pregnant with her next little bundle of joy. And she keeps on running—pretty fast, too.

The Hoka One One Northern Arizona Elite runner won the SLO Half Marathon on Sunday in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Her time of 1:23:14 beat second-place Allison Gonzales by 1:40.

Not to be outdone, the winner of the men’s race was Stephanie’s husband Ben Bruce, also a professional for NAZ Elite. His time of 1:10:55 beat Steven Grolle by 2:27.

The SLO Half didn’t have a loaded elite field, but Stephanie’s performance was another impressive showing by moms-to-be recently. Track star Alysia Montano famously ran the 800 meters at the 2014 U.S. outdoor championships at 34 weeks pregnant. A woman ran the Boston Marathon last week 34 weeks pregnant, finishing in 4:19:14.

Stephanie Bruce, a 2:29 marathoner, has not slowed down much. She ran a 17:43 at the Carlsbad 5000 in March and continues to tweet about her training. She’s due in September and aspires to return to action quickly so she can compete in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in either the marathon or on the track.
