The 2008 World Junior Champion in the 1500m is upbeat about her prospects in 2012.
On February 13 of this year, Scottish runner Steph Twell’s world was turned upside down. On that day she broke her ankle in three places.
Five months removed from that tragic day, Twell is now nearly fully recovered and ready to do her best to make the British 2012 Olympic team. Twell maintains a positive attitude about the experience. “Each day brings new challenges for me, as I attempt to regain muscular strength in my calf muscles and my normal ankle range,” she writes on the British Web site, The Telegraph. “But despite this major diversion ahead of the Games, I am extremely happy with this fresh test of character.”
She says that in the next three weeks she will be continuing her Alter G training and by the beginning of August, hopes to be able to tolerate 100 percent of her body weight.
“From there I will be able to start to do some ‘proper’ running on top of the alternative training I have been doing to maintain my cardiovascular fitness such as swimming, cycling and aqua jogging,” she said.
