Steeplechase Showdown Scheduled For Pre

Kenya is expected to dominate.

Kenya is expected to dominate.

This July, all three 2012 Olympic medalists in the steeplechase event will be squaring off at the 39th Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

Additionally, seven of the top 10 steeplechase specialists in the world last year will compete.

At the top of the list is Paul Koech of Kenya, who has won all three Diamond League titles.

Equally competitive is rival Ezekiel Kemboi, who owns gold medals from 2004 and 2012.

The two runners have battled on the track 48 times in the past, with Kemboi coming out ahead (28 victories).

Both runners will be 31 when they race in Oregon.

Kenya also has a young hopeful: Conseslus Kipruto, who is just 18 years old.

Not to be overlooked at this race is Evan Jager of the United States. Jager is the current American-record holder for the event.

He is a University of Wisconsin graduate and broke the six-year-old record last year.

Donn Cabral is another top American contender who is expected to hang with the leaders.
