Stars Shine In Diamond League Debut
Season-opener in Doha features nine world-leading performances.
The IAAF Diamond League debuted in Doha last night, and the inaugural installment of this new summer series definitely didn’t disappoint.
Nine world-leading performances highlighted the competition in the Quatari capital, led by Kenyans David Rudisha, Nancy Langat, Eliud Kipchoge and Ezekiel Kemboi in the distance races. Rudisha won the men’s 800 meters in meet-record time, crossing the finish line in 1:43.00 to outdistance countryman Asbel Kiprop. In the women’s 1,500 meters, the Olympic champion Langat topped the field 4:01.63, also a meet record. Kipchoge got his season off to a solid start in the men’s 5,000 meters, winning in a personal best 12:51.21, while Kemboi took the win in the men’s steeplechase in 8:06.28.
