Stacked 20K Fields Set For U.S. Champs

Matt Tegenkamp and Molly Pritz are the current favorites.

Running USA has complied a summary of the competition that will toe the line at the U.S. 20K Championships that take place Sept. 2 in New Haven, Conn.

Two-time Olympian and former University of Wisconsin standout Matt Tegenkamp will return to defend his title.

Tegenkamp’s job will be far from easy, as he’ll square off against Abdi Abdirhaman, Jason Hartmann, and 2012 runner-up Luke Puskedra.

Shadrack Biwott and Josphat Boit are also entered. Biwot finished third in the U.S. 10K Championships this year, while Bolt took second at the 25K championships.

In those same 25K championships, Tegenkamp placed fourth. He is planning on running the Chicago Marathon in October.

In the women’s race, Renee Metivier Baillie, who won the event last year, will not be at the starting line. This means all eyes are on 25-year-old Molly Pritz, who won the 2011 edition of the race.
