The fastest American to ever run 10,000m wants to focus on the track for the next three to five years.
In a recent interview with Roads, Mills, Laps, Chris Solinsky, the American record holder in the 10,000m, gave his perspective on the marathon. He had been riding in the lead car at the ING New York City Marathon as a guest of the New York Road Runners and witnessed the fallout of the surges that took place up First Avenue.
“I’ve never seem so much carnage happen so quickly,” he said.
Solinsky then pointed out that he doesn’t think he will be ready to race 26.2 miles for another three to five years. Alluding to Bernard Lagat’s record in the 5,000m, he said: “I still have some unfinished business on the track. If I accomplish the goals I have on the track then I might move to the next venue, which would be marathoning.”
In the same interview, Solinsky gave his opinion about the potential dangers of running in minimalist shoes.
“I get nervous for people with these new Vibrams that are out….I have seen a lot of people running those races in them. That is dangerous. That is something that can turn people off to running, which is never what anyone wants. Whoever is in charge of the marketing for Vibram should be a little bit careful,” he said.
