Solinsky Headlines American Contingent At Wharf-To-Wharf Race

The former 10,000m record holder joins a strong American field.

The former 10,000m record holder joins a strong American field.

On July 28, top runners from across the country and the world will take part in the 41st edition of the Wharf-to-Wharf race in Santa Cruz, Calif.

According to a press release about the event, Chris Solinsky headlines the “deepest American field in the history of the race.”

Solinsky, 28, was a former University of Wisconsin standout. He currently trains under Coach Jerry Schumacher with the Oregon Track Club Elite.

Three years ago, he became the first non-African to run under 27 minutes for the 10,000m event.

“It’s always exciting to be a part of history, to make history,” Solinsky said. “Maybe this year I’ll be able to do both: be part of it and also make it by being the first American in 18 years to win it.”

He continued: “I’m just going to go with the lead pack and do everything I can to stay with it. If I’m there, I’m going to make the move to go for the win.”

The Wharf-to-Wharf course measures six miles in length.
