Sizing Up 2016: Who Will Make The U.S. Olympic Marathon Teams?

Here’s a quick glance at who some of the top contenders might be on Feb. 13, 2016

[Updated: August 13, 2015]

The 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon races in Los Angeles are only 6 months away—Feb. 13, 2016. All six members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon team—Meb Keflezighi, Ryan Hall and Abdi Abdirahman; Shalane Flanagan, Desiree Linden and Kara Goucher—are all hoping to repeat their top-3 performances from the 2012 Trials in Houston and earn a spot at the 2016 Games in Rio. Over the past three years, however, a new class of potential contenders has emerged and could shake up the scope of American marathoning as we know it.

Here’s a quick glance at who some of the top men’s and women’s contenders might be next February, based on recent results, PRs and other considerations.
