World steeplechase champion Marta Dominguez of Spain was questioned and detained by Spanish police on Thursday in a major anti-doping operation in Madrid.

Dominguez, who won the 5,000 meters at the 2001 and 2003 World Championships and the steeplechase in 2009, was held in detention along with her coach, Cesar Perez, and another trainer, Manuel Pascua Piqueras.

“Operation Galgo” as Spanish officials are calling the probe, is targeting many big name’s in Spanish endurance athletics, including former mountain biker Alberto Leon and sports physician Eufemiano Fuentes, as several homes and businesses around Spain were searched.

The Spanish Athletics Federation claims they had no knowledge of the operation, but according to reportsa, the federation last month opened a probe into doping allegations involving Jose Luis Blanco, the bronze medalist in the steeplechase at this year’s European championships.
