Here’s some inspiration for aging runners out there: India’s Ashis Roy is 79 years old and is back in action. According to a report posted on the New York Daily News’ Web site, Roy, who will turn 80 in a few days, ran the Alexandria Half Marathon in Virginia in 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 40 seconds.
Roy is famous, because he has run a record 113 marathons.
He has been bedridden in the past three months due to backbone surgery in Delhi last November.
Roy ran his last full marathon in the United States last August. His impressive marathon tally can be broken out as follows: 44 in the US, 12 in Canada, 38 in India and 19 in other countries.
He is known as the “Marathon Man” of India. Roy began running marathons at the age of 52 after her had retired as a cardiologist for the Indian Air Force.
His first marathon was in 1985, while his 100th marathon took place January of 2010.
