Semenya Plans Return To International Competition

Gender test results have still not been released.

South African women’s 800m world champion Caster Semenya is reportedly ready to return to competition. Her coach, Michael Seme, told reporters that Semenya will begin running local races but will run in international stage competition this year. This comes as the IAAF has held off reporting the results of the gender tests they ordered Semenya to endure after she was crowned world champion in 2009.

Semenya’s win has been marred with controversy ever since it was reported that the IAAF disputed her gender. Although she has been able to keep her title from 2009, the IAAF said she would be barred from female-only competitions if the gender tests prove she is not female. A time line is still unknown on when the gender test results will be released, if ever.
