Semenya Eyeing A Big Race In Berlin

Reigning world champion returns to site of last year’s record-setting performance.

Caster Semenya says she wants to put the past year behind her and focus instead on future successes, specifically at next summer’s World Championships and at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She will compete in her marquee event, the 800 meters, this Sunday in Berlin, site of last summer’s record-setting performance in the 800-meter final at the IAAF World Championships.

“I don’t want to talk about the past. I want to talk about the future,” Semenya said Friday. “I am preparing for the Olympics and that’s what I want to talk about.”

The 19-year-old South African was cleared to compete again in July after 11 months of gender tests. She is hoping to run under two minutes for 800 meters this weekend, and will also compete in three more meets this season in hopes of making the South African team for the Commonwealth Games in October.
