Ryan Hall will return to the marathon on March 15 at the 2015 LA Marathon, the race announced this week.
The Los Angeles race doubles as the USATF Marathon Championships in 2015, ensuring a significant prize purse. Hall will run the LA Marathon for the first time. He’s from nearby Big Bear Lake, Calif.
“I’m thrilled to run the iconic Stadium to Sea course for the first time as an opportunity to compete in my home state against the nation’s most premiere athletes in the 2015 USATF Marathon Championships,” Hall said in a press release. “Last year, I was involved in race weekend activities through my relationships with ASICS, and was inspired to run this year by the stellar elite field, operational excellence and enthusiastic local support of the ASICS LA Marathon.”
Hall’s last marathon was the 2014 Boston Marathon in April, where finished 20th in a time of 2:17:50. He has run as fast as 2:04:58 at Boston in 2011, but hasn’t broken 2:10 since the 2012 Olympic Trials.
The 2015 USATF Marathon Championships will have a prize purse of $150,000, split evenly among American men and women who finish in the top 15. In addition, the LA Marathon has a $110,000 prize purse.
Los Angeles will also be the site of the 2016 Olympic Trials marathon, and is submitting a bid to host the 2024 Olympics.
