The Olympic silver medalist prevailed with a huge kick.

If there’s any doubt about Galen Rupp’s fitness, it was squashed on the track at the Oregon Twilight meet last Friday. Rupp, who was supposed to run the 800m, moved up in distance to compete in the 3000m event.

He won the race in 7:46.34 with a final surge that saw him out-kick fellow Oregon Project teammate Dathan Ritzenhein.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been here,” Rupp said after the race about the meet. “Everybody is so friendly, and so supportive.”

World Championship bronze medalist Matthew Centrowitz won the men’s 800m event in 1:47.95.

“Anytime you get a win it’s a good race,” Centrowitz said. “I definitely competed well. Tactically I think I put myself a little too far back. But that’s why we get in these races — to get back those race tactics.”

Meanwhile, in the women’s 1500m race Hillary Holt pulled off a huge upset, defeating pros Kerri Gallagher, Natalie Picchetti, Aisha Praught, and Jemma Simpson.
