Unfinished Business On The Track For Rupp

He isn’t quite ready for the Olympic marathon. 

Even though he has an Olympic silver medal, Galen Rupp of the United States says that he’s not done running around the rubberized oval.

“[Right now], the marathon really hasn’t crossed my mind too much. I know I’ll eventually run one for sure,” he said in a recent interview with Flotrack.org.

” I still feel like I’ve got unfinished business on the track and I’m not ready to move up to the marathon until I’ve accomplished everything I want to accomplish at 10,000 meters.”

Rupp, a former University of Oregon standout, is coached by legendary runner from the 1980s, Alberto Salazar, who won the New York City and Boston Marathons.

Rupp says he plans to run the same 10,000m distance at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in four years.

He will be 30 years old then.

“I think that [Salazar and I] have always followed a long-term plan and real gradual progression, so I think I still have at least four more good hears ahead of me on the track,” Rupp said.
