Runners Brave Alaskan Dawn To Dusk Race

Conditions were as cold as 35 below zero.

Alaska probably isn’t the warmest place to run an outdoor race right now. Still, that didn’t deter participants from running the Dawn to Dusk Run in Fairbanks earlier this month.

The challenge for runners was to see how many 3-mile loops they could complete from 11am to 2:41 p.m. The course started and finished at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Great Hall.

According to a report on Newsminer.com, the conditions for the runners ranged from 25 to 35 below zero.

Nancy Fresco won the women’s race, while Ron Koczaja prevailed in the men’s event.

Fresco managed six laps around the course. Rival Karen Taber covered the same distance, but Fresco was faster.

Meanwhile, in the men’s race, Koczaja made it look easy with eight laps.

In addition to the individual winners, the race also held a team competition. Running Late, which happened to be the race’s sponsor, won that category.

The team scoring was completed by adding the number of miles each member ran divided by the number of participants.
