CBS Boston is reporting about a new ultra-running milestone. Last weekend, Adam Scully-Power became the first person ever to cover the Pan-Mass Challenge course on foot.
The Pan-Mass Challenge is the nation’s original fundraising bike-a-thon. It’s been held annually since 1980. The event is traditionally reserved for cyclists with the course measuring 163 miles.
Scully-Power covered the distance in 41 hours and 33 minutes.
On his Instagram account, upon completion of the impressive feat he wrote: “I had two simple goals: 1) to finish and 2) to raise critical funds so that the research can continue to find a cure for cancer.”
The 163-mile run was the longest for the 39-year-old who has completed two 100 milers previously.
Scully-Power is from Florida and had set out originally to raise $25,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and admits that he reached that goal last weekend.
He also said he ran the course as a tribute to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings that took place on April 15.
