‘Run For Water’ Race Celebrates Anniversary

Organizers hope to raise enough money to dig one well in Haiti.

There are a lot of races out there with noble intentions. The Santa Rosa Press Gazette in Florida reported on one of these this week.

It’s called the “Run for Water” and was founded by the Pea Ridge Running Club last year. Their second edition of the 5K on Sept. 14 at the Pace High School in Milton, Fla.

Race proceeds benefit an organization called Living Water International, which establishes wells and provides water in impoverished communities.

“It certainly is a great cause with much need,” admitted Pea Ridge Running Club’s Mike Everett. “Something that many of us take for granted in our community is a matter of life and death in many areas of the world — clean, accessible water. Haiti is one of those areas.”

Many races share a percentage of revenues with charity, but not this one.

Everett says 100 percent of race fees go directly to the cause. He hopes enough money will be raised to dig one well in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
