Running the “Marabana” aka the Havana Marathon

Check out these shots from Cuba's largest road race!

Running the Havana Marathon had been off limits to American runners for many years due to the U.S. economic embargo against Cuba. But in 2011, New York-based Insight Cuba organized a people-to-people cultural exchanged (approved by the U.S. Treasury Department) and took about 25 American runners to Havana to run their choice of the marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K. Now there are several ways Americans can legally run in Cuba’s largest road race festival. Click through the photos below to get a glimpse of Havana and the race weekend known as “Marabana” (a combination of “marathon” and the local pronunciation of Havana).
