The national campaign enters its sixth year.
For nine days in May, the American Running Association (ARA) will host and also promote its “Run A Mile” campaign.
The non-profit organization, which is based out of Maryland, is hoping to energize elementary and middle school children with this initiative that carries with it the “R U A MILER” rallying cry.
“This year marks our sixth year of helping community and school leaders lead boys and girls in a fitness push with the Mile,” said ARA Director Dave Watt. “We are committed to supporting schools and groups who join the Run a Mile Days concept.”
The ARA is sponsoring an increasing number of elementary and middle schools in all 50 states.
May happens to be a significant month for the mile as it was on May 6, 1954 when legendary Roger Bannister became the first human to dip under 4:00 for that distance.
The ARA was founded in 1968 to promote healthy living and active lifestyles among all Americans.
